Football Pitch Maintenance Services

If you’ve recently had your football pitch renovated by our experts or you’re just in need of an ongoing maintenance contract for your existing grass pitch, then we’re the best company to call. ALS is one of the UK’s leading sports turf companies – we’ve been doing this for many years and have gathered the knowledge, expertise, and experience to complete pitch maintenance services to the highest standards.

As part of our sports pitch maintenance services, we focus solely on natural grass, from top-level clubs to small, local clubs, we’ve carried out a maintenance plan to suit all different kinds of pitches. Our plan will be unique to your requirements, we draw up our maintenance contracts per job, this will include:

Aeration services – usually we will complete verti draining once or twice a year using our reliable machine, the Verti-drain and Wiedenmann Terraspike Solid Tine Aerator 1.5m TD. Verti draining aerates your soil – improving drainage, aiding thatch breakdown, and encouraging healthy roots along with many other benefits. We can also carry out hollow tining to aerate your turf – our experts will choose between hollow tining and verti draining based on what’s best to decompact your soil.

Scarification services – we scarify football pitches to remove weeds, moss, and any other dead/organic matter. Our state-of-the-art machinery allows for a quick and clean clear-up.

Fertiliser applications – adding nutrients effectively and efficiently, our team can carry out liquid fertiliser applications to your pitch to help the grass stay healthy.

Regular contract mowing – ensuring the grass is always at a reasonable length is crucial for football, if it isn’t trimmed, this could cause injury and the ball won’t travel properly due to being slowed by the overgrown grass, causing the players not to be able to move the ball as well. Our team will make sure the grass is perfect, providing regular mowing and going from corner-to-corner and box-to-box, never missing a single inch.

Sports turf irrigation – the ALS team will work with you and offer advice on how you can utilise irrigation on your football pitch to perfectly water your grass.

Overseeding – completed as part of our turf renovation services, it thickens the sward after seasonal play. We have a range of machines and normally use our Vaderstad 2m Single Pass Seeder for football pitches.

Top dressing – applied after our aeration, scarification and overseeding services, a topdressing mixture is applied to the top of pitches to improve drainage and disease resistance.

That was just a rundown of what we offer within our pitch maintenance services. If you want your pitch to be performance-ready and fit for professionals, hire ALS contracts to undertake your grounds maintenance plan, complete the callback form below.

Grass Pitch Maintenance

Grass Pitch Maintenance is essential for maintaining a football pitch in top condition for both players and spectators. The quality of the general football pitch is likely to depend upon a routine maintenance programme carried out by a skilled groundsman . This involves a range of tasks including regular grass cutting , fertilising, and watering to ensure optimal grass coverage across the pitch. Additionally, during the renovation period , it may be necessary to re-establish grass back to its full potential through the use of grass seed to germinate and grow.

To keep the pitch in great condition, it is important to also consider other aspects of maintenance such as selective herbicide application to control weeds and fertilise to promote healthy growth. Upkeep of the pitch also involves regular spiking or slitting to improve moisture infiltration and aeration of the soil. This ensures that the grass remains healthy and resilient, even during periods of heavy use such as matches or training sessions for grassroots teams or full-size football games that may be televised.

In addition to manual tasks, maintenance machinery such as a mower and sweeping equipment are essential for carrying out  regular maintenance tasks efficiently and effectively. It is important to hire experts like ALS to ensure that all necessary tasks are carried out at the right time to keep the pitch in optimal condition. By following a comprehensive maintenance programme, our groundskeepers can ensure that the pitch remains in great shape for use throughout the year, regardless of the weather conditions.

Get Ready for the Football Club Playing Season with ALS Contracts

As the off-season comes to an end and the season starts approaching, it’s essential to ensure that the pitch is in prime condition for play. One crucial aspect of maintaining a top-quality pitch is to prevent the buildup of thatch and to stimulate growth. ALS Contracts follows a comprehensive guide to football pitch maintenance to keep the playing surface in optimal condition throughout the year.

During the autumn and winter months, the pitch undergoes a great deal of wear and tear from game play and adverse weather conditions. It is during this time that addressing any problem areas becomes a crucial task. ALS Contracts recommends addressing any issues that may prevail such as compaction and vegetation control.

ALS Contracts advises a proactive approach to pitch maintenance, recommending that work be carried out regularly rather than waiting until issues become severe. Regular inspection of the pitch surface can help identify any work required and prevent larger problems from arising. The team at ALS Contracts can provide the operations which could help alleviate various pitch issues such as compaction, divots, and improper soil conditions.

ALS mow regularly to a height of 25 – 30mm or up to 50mm (depending on pitch type) and ensure the soil temperatures are adequate for growth so the pitch can be kept in optimal condition for playability. ALS Contracts recommends maintaining a reputable pitch maintenance schedule to ensure that the playing surface is ready for use when it’s needed. With proper care and attention, the pitch can be maintained throughout the football season, providing a safe and enjoyable playing surface for all.
